Broken shoes

By: shelbi henny

I tied a knot into
The shoe laces
Explaining how long
I have chased you
Sketching and measuring
The distance since I
Last seen the hatred
Spew from your lips
And smother me
Dismissing the foundation
I cut each slit for
Opportunity
Knowing that I could
Never measure
The inadequacy
Of a distorted figure
You presume
I can never be
I stumble over my
Untied shoes
Unfamiliar with balance
But yet I chase you
Flapping and cursing
The ground
That spins under you
While I embrace
Cobble stone and rocks
Mark the palms of my hands
Hitting the concrete
With tenacity
